Texas Toast oil painting

Texas toast - 9x12 oil on panel was painted in Florida after a visit to the beach. I LOVE when people break out into their interesting, weird, and wonderful selves. :)

Do you people watch? Me, too! XD Honestly, I'm constantly looking as an artist. Noticing colors and shapes and wonderful things all around. I even managed to find a way to love (parts of) winter -- just think of the blues and purples on snow that you get at NO other time of year. Yep. Love that.

Know what I love even more? Going to Florida in winter. lol. Beachy, sunny days, sand in my toes, and all the people in bright colors. This guy -- Texas toast -- was just a guy on the beach, soaking up the sun.

I juiced up the color just a bit on this one -- in the shadows are the deep blues, the cooler is ultra red. I love how it turned out!

All my Rotie friends

Have you ever collected wine corks? They are a fun way to capture special memories with friends. This collection of paintings speaks back to those moments.

I thought it would be hard to title. 3 corks – what was I trying to say with this?

Of course, the title came in a flash. All My Rowdy Friends (Have Settled Down) by Hank Williams is the inspiration for ‘All my Rotie friends’.

If you’ve been following me, you know that I had a wine adventure last year  that ended up with me running home to prepare tons of source material for paintings. Some of those paintings are now being finished, and I couldn’t be happier with the results!

This collection is my very first tryptic – collection of 3 paintings that are meant to hang together. Yep – didn’t really plan it. It just made sense when it came time to paint.

This is another painting where things GLOW with the red underpainting. The toughest thing to paint? The shadows! – making the corks look 3D was SO tricky, I almost died. (not really) It was tough, though.

I love that I was able to use corks that Sean has down at 200 Main Art & Wine in Eau Claire, WI. If you ask him, he might even be able to tell you all about these wine corks and why the wine they are from is so special.
