Painted Portraits
Painted portraits memorializes someone in paint. It is a way to say, 'This person is special.' Agree?
If you want a portrait for yourself or someone else, then stick around. Here are my thoughts -- as an artist who LOVES painting people. :)
I've painted a self portrait before, so I know it can feel different to ask for a portrait of yourself. I've been there! It's a great idea and can feel exciting to see your personality shine. You can be playful or serious, romantic or all business -- the style and feel of your portrait is totally up to you.
What is important to know if you're asking for a custom painted portrait?
1) It's critical to get good pictures. It's worth the investment to ensure that your portrait turns out wonderfully. Blurry photos or photos with bad lighting are difficult or impossible to fix. Sometimes I see a photo of a photo and the original is already a fuzzy photo -- unfortunately, these just don't work.
2) A great photo may not work for a painting -- some photos are terrific, but they might not work for a painted portrait. I recommend having several photos together, if you're providing your own. That way, we can review and discuss which ones work best.
3) A custom painted portrait shouldn't be too small. A minimum size for me would be 8x10 for 1 person. Smaller than that is too fussy and difficult to paint in my style.
4) Consider where you might hang it. This isn't critical, but it's a good idea to consider -- will it be the right size for where it will hang? If you're wanting to create a little vignette next to a chair, perhaps a smaller painting would work. Do you have a grand space or a large wall area? -- Go big! Big and dramatic would show your confidence or sense of fun, perhaps.
Asking for a painted portrait for yourself, your family, and even yourself with your pet -- these are all super fun ideas. If you're ready, let's chat!
